One of The Good Guys
Since entering the Governors office in 1993 Ted Kulomgoski has attended the funerals of 74 or 75 Oregonian war dead. This is a personal commitment he has made and he is determined that for him — and through him, for the state — no Oregonian’s war death will be just a news story. The funerals have become a hallmark of his governorship, self-assigned obligations for which he has canceled political events and overseas trade trips. He is formally notified of each death by his legal adviser, Danny Santos. “When they call and say it’s Danny,” he says, “I just want to hang up.”
His biography is a great American success story. He began life humbly and now he is the first Oregon Governor to serve in all three branches of state government—legislative, judicial and executive.
